Giving Makes a Difference

As I watch the Armenian Church grow and embrace its future, I have been awed by the spirit with which families have embraced our faith and our church. Generations – grandparents, children and grandchildren – have given their time, talent and treasure to assure promise of continued faith and a legacy for our ancient Armenian heritage in the twenty-first century.

The youth programs we initiated and strengthened with your support last year have realized renewed energy, and continue to gain in momentum.

As we broaden our focus from last year’s youth-centered objectives to this Year of Church and Home; One in Spirit, I am asking each of you to support the Spirit Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2007, a program of annual giving that supports ministries and programs and nurtures parishes, families and individuals throughout our Diocese.

Through your gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2007, you are supporting ministries and programs benefiting our parishes, families and individuals throughout our Diocese.

Please make your gift as generous as you can today.

Through your gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2007, you are supporting ministries and programs benefiting our parishes, families and individuals throughout our Diocese.

With the support we realized last year, we initiated and strengthened many of the programs that we plan to build on during the Year of Church and Home: One in Spirit.

Here is just a few of the works your gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2007 makes possible:

  • Young people from throughout the Diocese participate in the annual ACYOA Leadership Conference for a weekend of leadership training, Christian education, spiritual growth, and fellowship.
  • The number of young people active in the Diocesan summer camp programs (Midwest Hye Camp and St. Vartan Camp at the Ararat Center near Albany, NY) increased in 2007 to almost 400 campers (ages 8-15), 100 junior staff (ages 16 and 17), and 70 staff (18 and older) joined by more than 50 volunteers from around the Diocese.
  • Our outreach to college students is at an all-time high. Last school year we visited 11 campuses, and this school year hope to visit 15.
  • In 2006, the Diocese launched a monthly e-newsletter, HYE-mail, for ACYOA Juniors (ages 13-18). The distribution list now reaches nearly 1,000 e-mail addresses.
  • The Diocese’s “alternative spring break” hit the road last spring traveling to Charlotte, NC; Richmond, VA; and Jacksonville, FL; to build homes with Habitat for Humanity and visit local Armenian Church communities. Thirty college students from throughout the Diocese took part in these one-week trips.
  • Our college ministry database now includes more than 4,000 names. All of these college students receive the monthly Eh-mail e-newsletter and access the website.
  • Diocesan staff led four youth retreats during the Lenten season. The retreat series was titled "If being A Christian was a Crime... Would You Be Convicted?" and focused on with the difficulties teens are faced on a daily basis to lead a Christian lifestyle. The retreats reached out to more than 100 youth between the ages of 13-18 from 15 different parishes.
  • Breathed By God, a comprehensive 16-session course God on Scripture designed for high schoolers (and suitable for adults) was published by the Diocese in a “Dummies Guide” format of sidebars, vocabulary, and points of distinctly Armenian interest.
  • Revisions to the Sunday School curriculum continues with the release of Jesus: Bible Stories for Children, a companion piece to the new Kindergarten text.
  • New electronic and Internet-based resources were introduced to supplement Sunday School and Armenian School curricula for teachers, students, and families.
  • 2007 marks the 20th anniversary of the Khrimian Lyceum, the Diocesan program which supplements the knowledge of Armenian School graduates with intense language, history, faith and culture lessons, along with extra-curriculars such as creative Armenian writing, dance, chorus and theatre.
  • Our Sunday School program expanded 6% from 2003 to 2006. There are now 2,484 students in 40 parish schools.
  • Through the ACYOA’s Armenia Service Program (ASP), more young people travel to Armenia , not just as tourists, but as Christians putting their faith into action. Service projects include working at summer camps for children and building homes with Habitat for Humanity.
  • Each year, the ACYOA General Assembly and Sports Weekend offers young adults an opportunity to gather and form lasting friendships. Along with the fun, delegates from throughout the Diocese deliberate and make decisions affecting their organization and its future, always guided by the mission of the ACYOA.

Please support the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal for 2007 with as generous of a gift as you possibly can. Make your gift through our secure servers. It’s safe and easy.
