Get Involved: Mary Selvinazian

During our church services, we communicate with the Lord through prayer and song. One way we strengthen our voice is by the training programs and efforts of the Association of Armenian Church Choirs of America (AACCA).

Mary Selvinazian, a member of Holy Martyrs Armenian Church in Bayside, NY, was presented with the St. Nersess Shnorhali Medal and Pontifical Encyclical during the Annual Assembly of the Association.

While presenting the medal, Archbishop Khajag Barsamian spoke highly of Ms. Selvinazian and her more than 40 years of service to the Armenian Church and its choirs. He singled her out as a special leader “who truly exemplifies the spirit of dedication that makes the Choir Association such a vibrant and vital organization.”

“She is the kind of person who can be called upon to accept serious responsibilities, reliably and without fanfare. More to the point, whatever she undertakes, she does with total love and joy, bringing all her talents to bear, to make the task a success,” the Primate said.

For Selvinazian, who funded the publication of a children’s Badarak choir book in 2003, being involved is just the right thing to do.

“I’m involved in the church today because the church has been an important part of my life for more than 60 years,” she said.
