What Can I Do to Help Armenia?

The Republic of Armenia is a vibrant, independent nation with many challenges and opportunities.  You can support and strengthen the people of Armenia.

Travel to Armenia

Armenia is fast becoming a tourist destination.  Armenians should go at least once in their lives.  If you haven't been, think about going.  Your local parishes, the Diocese, and other affiliated organizations often organize trips.  If you would like to receive future information on trips, Send your name and email address to info@armeniandiocese.org.

Send Someone to Armenia

If you've been to Armenia, you know it is a profound journey.  Strengthen your local community by sending a young person from your parish to Armenia.  They'll return with a better understanding of their heritage and a desire to help keep it alive.  Talk to your parish priest or council chairman about establishing a fund to pay for trips to Armenia for young parishioners.  For more information on starting an endowment to help pay for travel costs, email info@armeniandiocese.org.

Volunteer in Armenia

There are a number of ways you can volunteer your time, energy, and skills to make the Republic of Armenia a stronger nation.  People of all ages, Armenian and non-Armenian, are encouraged to join one of these efforts, or the many others:

Armenia Service Program: The Armenian Church Youth Organization of America (ACYOA) runs the Armenian Service Program (ASP), which each year allows dozens of young Armenian Americans to serve as camp counselors at a summer camp for needy children in Armenia. http://www.acyoa.org/

Armenian Volunteer Corps: This program connects short-term and long-term volunteers with agencies in Armenia.  The volunteers can share their special skills and education, or serve as extra general manpower.  http://www.armenianvolunteer.org/index.htm

Birthright Armenia: For volunteers who are committed to working in Armenia for a certain period of time, the Birthright Armenia project provides free-air fare to Armenia, language training, and orientations and workshops in Armenia.  http://www.birthrightarmenia.org/

Habitat for Humanity: Many parishes, and non-Armenian churches, have organized group trips to Armenia to volunteer as homebuilders for the international arm of Habitat for Humanity. www.geocities.com/gengoz52/habitat.html

Support Armenia's Growth

Armenia continues to transition from communism to a free and independent economy.  The Diaspora can help Armenia by supporting efforts that give Armenia the tools and resources to compete in the modern economy.

The Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR) is the preeminent Diasporan organization operating in Armenia.  For almost two decades FAR has implemented relief, social, education, cultural, and economic development programs -- an investment of almost $300 million in the republic.  Your support of FAR makes possible everything from soup kitchens for the elderly and centers for needy children to infrastructure renovations and scientific research and education.  http://www.farusa.org/

Stand up for Armenian Issues

From working to end the Turkish blockade to providing foreign aid, several organizations work with American politicians to address Armenian issues in Washington D.C. and in statehouses throughout the nation.  One of the major organizations is the Armenian Assembly of America, http://www.aaainc.org/
