A Teacher’s Meeting Bible Study
Parable of the Steward
Luke 16:1-15
Read the Scripture aloud and discuss questions as a group.
1. What did the manager do when he saw he was about to be fired?
- He moved quickly to cut his boss’s losses.
- He hurried to cover his tracks.
- He tried to get even with his boss.
- He tried to wheel and deal his way out of trouble.
- He created obligations he could “call in” later.
2. Why did the master commend the manager?
- Because he had given up on collecting the debts
- Because he admired shrewdness
- Because some payment was better than none
- Because the manager had acted quickly and decisively
3. What was Jesus teaching here?
- Dishonesty is the best policy.
- We should use money shrewdly.
- We should use money to buy friends
- We should extend God’s kingdom by sharing with those in need.
- We should be as diligent as unbelievers are in managing money.
- Our spiritual growth is directly related to our faithfulness with money.
4. What does it mean to you to be “trustworthy in handling worldly wealth?”
- To put profits first
- To make smart financial decisions
- To implement the decisions of my superiors
- To handle wealth with the conviction that God owns it all
- To always be honest an ethical
- To use money in a way that will reap eternal dividends
5. How do you view your money?
- It’s mine—keep you hands off!
- It’s my creditors’.
- It’s God’s—I just manage it.
6. How do you feel about Jesus’ black and white words: “You cannot serve both God and Money?” What practical changes can you make in your life to make you less of a servant or slave to money?
