Bulletin Boards: Winter, “God’s Marvelous Season”

Materials needed: Light blue background paper; white paper or oak tag or computer print-out for heading; cotton stuffing; stapler; scissors; white paper circles or coffee filters; markers. Optional: spray snow.

Cover the bulletin board with blue background paper. Write this heading on white paper or oak tag or print out on computer:

God does great things beyond our understanding.

He says to the snow, ˜Fall on the earth.” (Job 37:5-6)

Have children fold each coffee filter or circle into quarters, then again once or twice. Children can cut squares, diamonds, triangles or moon shapes from the folded edges.

When the circles are unfolded, they are beautiful snowflakes! Have children write their names on the snowflakes, and attach them to the bulletin board. Staple cotton stuffing to the bottom of the board to create a blanket of snow. You may also wish to use spray snow.

A Poon Paregentan /Lent School Celebration

This Poon Paregentan, why not try a celebration of God’s love by having an Armenian cross craft hour followed by a brief worship assembly?

Have the entire school make a Styrofoam khachkar (see instructions and download PDF of the directions and pattern) or, for younger grades, simpler crosses from Popsicle sticks or felt. This can be done together in your hall or separately in classrooms.

Crosses should be marked with the student’s name and be collected in a single box or basket by their teachers for distribution at the ceremony. If you have a large school, you might need to have teachers distribute crosses to their students after which everyone can make a single vow for Lent.

During the assembly, discuss the meaning of Poon Paregentan and Lent (this will be a great opportunity to distribute the Diocese's new ‘Sundays of Lent’ cards), announce the Lenten charity for this year, and end with the celebration of Lent.

See an outline of the suggested celebration.
