Two By Two Answers

Identify the following twosomes! Okay, you can use your Bible to help you with some of these.

1. St. Thaddeus and St. Bartholomew were the two disciples of Jesus who traveled to Armenia to share the Good News.

2. Lazarus had two sisters: Mary and Martha

3. Two Bible books, Genesis in the Old Testament and John in the New Testament, begin with the words “In the beginning…”

4. St. Vartan led a small yet heroic army against the Persians in 451 A.D. at Avarayr, accompanied on the battlefield by the priest, St Ghevont. (Hint: their feast days are in February)

5. The two Bible books named after women are Ruth and Esther

6. Luke wrote two books of the Bible, the Gospel bearing his name and the fifth book of the New Testament Acts.

7. It took two to start the spark that spread Christianity into the first century royal court: the princess St. Santookht (first Armenian martyr of our Church) and the disciple St. Thaddeus.

8. Zebedee had two sons - James and John. (Matthew 4:21)

9. David and Jonathan were close friends. (I Samuel 18:1)

10. The invention of the Armenian alphabet (2005 marks the 1600th anniversary of that achievement!) is attributed to a priest, St. Mesrob, with the support his Catholicos, St. Sahag.

11. Zechariah and Malachi are the last two books of the Old Testament.

12. God destroyed the two wicked – and very famous – cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

13. The passionate St. Gregory made Armenia the first Christian nation in approximately 301 A.D. by first converting King Drtad and the royal court.

14. Saul, the persecutor of Christians, got a second name when he became a Christian and was known as St. Paul, author of most of the New Testament letters.

15. If the books of the entire Bible were listed in alphabetical order, the first two would be Acts and Amos.

16. Haggai, the 37th book of the Bible, has only two chapters.

17. Job lived in the land of Uz which consists of two letters! (Job 1:1)

18. Two qualities of real love as listed in 1 Corinthians 13 are patience and kindness (other answers are possible)

19. Jesus shared two things with a crowd of thousands: loaves and fishes.

20. Cleopas was one of the two who walked with Jesus on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-19)

21. Extra credit! King Drtad’s wife Queen St. Ashkhen was very important to the Christian movement in Armenia; his sister Princess Khosrovitookht, is said to have kept St. Gregory alive in his pit.
