Throughout the year 2001, the entire Armenian Church will observe the 1700 anniversary of our nation's conversion to Christianity. This blessed milestone will be celebrated in the homeland and throughout the diaspora; in our Diocesan Center and in every one of our local parishes.

It will, of course, be an excellent opportunity to travel back (figuratively and literally) to our roots, and to honor our proud heritage. But our celebration should not only be about the past. Above all, it should inspire us to look forward, to dream of what tomorrow may hold, and to lay the foundation for a future worthy of the world's first Christian nation.

Our point of departure is embodied in the statement of intent devised to guide our Diocese: The Armenian Church is significant in the life of every Armenian living within the geographic boundaries of the Eastern Diocese, and his or her family. Our intention will be expressed through five focus areas: Worship, Leadership, Stewardship, Communi-cation and Youth.

Here on our website you will find numerous activities, suggestions and recommendations to enrich your observance of the 1700 Celebration.

I urge you to choose and create a yearlong calendar of activities for your local community. Ideally, the programs you select should reach out beyond the routine confines of parish life, to attract a broad spectrum of people throughout the entire community-and make them, too, feel that the Armenian Church is significant!
