Group IV: Repentance (Confession/Forgiveness)
This group will discuss repentance, which includes confession and forgiveness, sharing with God our sins, failures and shortcoming, in personal and communal prayer.
- Bible Verses: "If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (I John 1:9)
- Other Verses: 2 Chronicles 7:14; Matthew 5:44; Mark 11:25; Acts 10:43; Phil 3:12-13;
- As Christians why do we need to repent?
- How do we seek forgiveness?
- Discuss confession during the Badarak.
- Why are repentance, confession and forgiveness important to our prayer life?
- Group Exercise: Have group members each take a piece of "special" paper and write on it something with which they have been struggling and are ready to hand over to God. Then have each come up and light the paper on fire. The special paper will ignite and disappear into thin air. There will remain no trace of the paper, and similarly, when we ask for God's forgiveness and partake in confession and communion, He forgives us of our sins, "with no trace."
- Individual Exercise: Have each participant write a personal prayer of repentance.
