Group III: Supplication
This group will discuss asking the Lord to have mercy upon us.
- Bible Verse: "Hear the supplications of your servant and of your people Israel when they pray toward this place. Hear from heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive." I Kings 8:31; 2 Chronicles 6:21
- Other Verses: Psalm 86:6; Psalm 119:170; Matthew 5:7; 2 John 1:3; Jude 1:21.
- Why is it important to ask God to have mercy on us?
- Talk about ways in which we ask for mercy on us, and others.
- Discuss examples of prayers of supplication in the Badarak.
- Group Exercise: Have the group list issues
of struggle in the world today, and then have group member offer
a prayer
of supplication seeking
God's mercy for each of these issues. After each member offers their
prayer, the entire group should say together, "Lord have mercy."
Individual Exercise: Have each person write a personal prayer of supplication - Have the group list issues of struggle in the world today, and then have group members come up with ways in which their parish can help to alleviate these burdens by showing God's mercy. "Lord have mercy."
